    IT Business Analyst

    IT Business Analyst Job Description

    Business analysts in the technology sector help organizations strategize how and where to improve technologically to increase business efficiency and reduce IT costs. These analysts are often tasked with designing or redesigning technical solutions to address specific business problems. They may also need to supervise development and integration processes and assume a front-line role in change management to help ensure planned projects are successfully executed. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems or business administration is often preferred for this position, as are several years of relevant technical or business work experience.

    Typical IT business analyst duties:

  • Identifying, refining, and validating complex business requirements, interdependencies, and potential risks and issues related to technology projects
  • Evaluating and documenting technical specifications and user and business requirements, and keeping that documentation accurate and up to date
  • Facilitating effective communication between, and gaining buy-in from, business units to help ensure business strategies and technology solutions are aligned
  • Conducting post-implementation research to determine how a new solution is being used and recommending improvements
