    We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Editor in Washington, DC. As an Editor, you will be responsible for researching, documenting, and ensuring the accuracy of all editorial material. You will work on department pieces and short features, verify and substantiate all statements of fact, and communicate with subject experts in various fields.


    This role will be onsite 4 days per week.


    Responsibilities


    • Research and document for the accuracy, fairness, and suitability of all editorial content


    • Work on departments pieces and short features, ensuring they meet the expected quality standards


    • Verify and substantiate all statements of fact, data, historical information, and identities in both text and captions using reputable sources


    • Cooperate with other editors, writers, photographers, lawyers, and consultants to produce high-quality content


    • Communicate with subject experts in private and governmental agencies, academic institutions, and industries to gather necessary information


    • Identify key issues and factual problems within text and captions, and suggest appropriate corrections


    • Pay attention to detail, nuance, and implication in all editorial tasks


    • Anticipate research needs and determine an effective course of action


    • Stay alert to legal issues such as liability, bias, plagiarism, and copyright issues, ensuring all content is compliant


    • Use Adobe InCopy, Microsoft Word, and other necessary software proficiently to perform tasks.

    • Demonstrated proficiency in research methodology
    • Experience in materials handling and organization
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications
    • Ability to work onsite as well as remotely via Zoom
    • Understanding of liability issues in the publishing sector
    • Familiarity with Mac computers and software
    • Proven ability to create and edit compelling editorial content
    • Experience in magazine editing is a plus
    • Familiarity with Assertion Markup Language
    • Knowledge of government agencies & programs
    • Understanding of legal issues related to publishing
    • Proficiency in STEP 7 software
    • Knowledge of copyright laws and regulations
    • Proven fact-checking skills
    • Familiarity with various writing styles
    • Proficiency in foreign languages is a plus
    • Experience with Incopy software
    • Knowledge of AP Style guidelines
    • R Code programming skills are a plus
